Department of College Education; Private colleges allowed to charge annual fee

Karachi: Sindh College Education Department has allowed private colleges to collect fees on an annual basis in the name of “Annual Charges” contrary to the law approved by the Provincial Assembly.

After this permission, private colleges in other districts of Sindh, including Karachi, will be able to collect monthly tuition fees as well as annual charges.

This has recently been revealed in the registration and renewal registration certificate issued by the Department of College Education to private colleges in which this clause has been formally added. College Education Department is being issued on the letterhead of the Government of Sindh.

It is being told that the said move is being done on the recommendation of the Directorate of Private Colleges and Director Private Colleges Abdul Qadir has also confirmed that private colleges have been formally allowed to collect annual charges.

When contacted by “Express”, Director Private Colleges Sindh Abdul Qadir said that private schools can do their annual activities and events with this money, but when asked that there is no scope for this in the act, he said. That the act has not written anything about annual events.

The director of schools was further inquired whether the inflation is not an additional burden on the parents in this era, to which they said that the inflation is so much that the common man is not able to eat three meals a day, so what should be done now.

It should be noted that according to the certificate to be issued, private colleges are being told that they can charge annual charges equivalent to one month’s tuition fee.

It should be noted that the monthly tuition fee of various colleges established in the city ranges from two and a half thousand rupees to 10 thousand rupees, while some private colleges have exceeded this limit in monthly fees.

Due to the permissibility of annual charges, these institutions are now charging or intending to charge annual charges equivalent to their respective monthly tuition fees, which has placed an additional burden on parents and this additional burden has led to the Sindh Assembly Acts and Rules. On the contrary, it has been documented.

Meanwhile, this move is also encouraging private schools that are running both schools and colleges under the same management to adopt the strategy of using the concession of annual charges granted to private colleges in their schools as well. .

The said move has come at a time when every common man is severely affected by the worst inflation in the country and it is impossible for him to maintain the relationship of body and soul.

Importantly, there is no mention of annual charges anywhere in the Sindh Assembly Act and the rules made on this basis, however, it is being included in the certificate of registration and renewal of registration.
