Karachi: The theft of 2 million gallons of water per day from the main line near Landhi Labor Square was caught, the water was being stolen under the guise of an RO plant by making a tunnel at a depth of 18 feet.

According to the details, the Rangers and the Water and Sewerage Corporation caught a unique incident of systematic theft of water worth billions of rupees for the last 10 years during a joint raid.

According to MD Water and Sewerage Corporation Syed Salahuddin, in the Landhi Labor Square area, the water thief mafia had built a tunnel 18 feet deep and 200 feet long, with the help of which 20 lakhs per day from the 54-inch water line from Haliji Lake to Anu. Gallons of water were being stolen.

The water stealing mafia had dug a tunnel for this purpose in which water was being stolen in a very organized manner from the main line coming from Haliji lake through 6 pipelines.

According to MD Water and Sewerage Corporation, this systematic theft of water was being done under the guise of RO plant, while water tanks with a capacity of millions of gallons were also built to collect water.

Syed Salahuddin said that he will investigate his officers with the help of satellite images. He said that if the theft of water is estimated for the last 10 years, its value is more than 15 billion rupees.
