The Peshawar High Court has sought a response from the Federal Ministry of Interior on the petition of Afghan musicians against Pakistan Badri.

Peshawar High Court’s Justice Abdul Shakur and Justice Syed Arshad Ali heard the petition against forced evacuation of Afghan musicians from Pakistan. The court sought a response from the Federal Ministry of Interior.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the government was forcibly evicting Afghan migrant artists in violation of international treaties.

Justice Syed Arshad Ali inquired under which law he should be granted refugee status, to which the petitioner’s counsel replied that refugee status can be granted under the 2003 agreement with UNHCR. Screening for registration of Afghan artists is underway.

The Deputy Attorney General told the court that we have not received any instructions in this regard so far. The court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow while seeking a response from the Federal Ministry of Interior on the application.
