Karachi: Nigellaria kills another, taking the death toll from Nigleria to 10.
The Sindh Health Department has confirmed the tenth death due to Nagliria folarii this year, 22-year-old student Muhammad Arsal Baig, a resident of North Karachi District Central, died of Nagliria.
Mohammad Arsal was brought to a private hospital on October 27 where his PCR test came back positive for Nigellaria, the town surveillance coordinator has been informed to collect water samples from the area on the insistence of the family.
According to medical experts, the symptoms of Nigleria foleri include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, neck stiffness, altered mental status and seizures. Nigelaria fowleri is a brain-eating amoeba, easily killed by chlorine.
The Sindh Health Department has directed that the public should take precautionary measures to prevent Nigellaria, according to the instructions recommended by the experts, the amount of chlorine should be added to the water.
