Karachi: In the government hospitals run under the provincial health department, the valuable machinery and various biomedical equipments worth billions of rupees are lying idle.

According to the records of the health department, 11 CT scanners worth Rs 275 crore and 3 MRI machines worth Rs 150 crore are also damaged in government hospitals of Sindh. The expensive robotic machine procured at Sindh Government Qatar Hospital Orangi Town at a cost of Rs.28 crore is also inactive till date.

In 2011, this machine was ordered in the name of treating patients in the hospital, while various doctors and technicians were sent abroad for training at the government expense to operate this machine, yet no surgery could be done with the robotic machine.

According to the sources, the important parts of the robotic machine are damaged, due to which the machine could not be activated for many years, while the 20 crore rupees calethotripsy machine, which breaks kidney stones through radiation, could not be installed in the hospital till date. Meanwhile, in the Sindh Government Korangi Hospital, the print extraction part of the city scan machine is broken, the echocardiogram machine is broken, the X-ray machine and 2 ventilators are also not in use, while in the current financial year 2023-24, 2 23 thousand rupees have been allocated, despite this, most of the medical equipment of the hospital is in bad condition.

According to the management sources of the hospital, a biomedical engineer has not been appointed in the hospital, similarly, a bioengineer and a biotechnician have not been appointed in the Sindh Government New Karachi Hospital. are lying

Sindh Government New Karachi Hospital has allocated 13 lakh 39 thousand rupees in the budget of 2023-24 for the repair of equipment and machinery.
