Lahore: Due to ongoing inflation, unemployment, political unrest in the country, the number of mental patients started increasing day by day, while every year there is an increase of 40% to 55%.
According to the documents obtained by The Express Tribune and Daily Express, this mental illness includes depression, sadness, despair, anxiety, extreme anger, irritability, quickness of mind, sleeplessness, inverted thoughts. In this whole process the patient becomes mentally paralyzed.
According to records, its rate in Lahore is more than one percent, while the rate of depression and others is 10 to 15 percent.

Mental stress on the other hand. Due to stress and psychological confusion, about 1,000 to 1,200 patients come to the Punjab Institute of Mental Health, the only institution in Punjab, out of which 40 to 50 have to be admitted to the hospital daily, while such a large number of patients The hospital lacks facilities, from doctors to paramedical staff and bands.
In the last three years, the number of patients in Punjab Institute of Mental Health is increasing. In 2020, this number was 1 lakh 70 thousand, which increased to 2 lakh in 2021, while in 2022, this number further increased to more than 2 lakh 50 thousand.
Executive Director Punjab Institute of Mental Health Dr Shakeel Ahmad Monga says that the only institution in the province lacks facilities. The total beds in the hospital are 1530, of which 1100 are inpatients.
