London: Experts have said that eating a handful of nuts daily reduces the risk of depression by 17%.
Research from the UK Biobank, an online database of medical lifestyle records from around 500,000 Britons, suggests that middle-aged and older adults who eat 30g of nuts a day have a lower mental Risk of stress is reduced.
Nuts include walnuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts and pistachios etc. Experts found that people who regularly eat nuts are also less likely to take antidepressants.
The aforementioned study was published in the journal Clinical Nutrition. Although it has not been explained why this happens, researchers hypothesize that the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of walnuts may have a protective effect.
