Karachi: The Sindh High Court, while hearing the case of recovery of 2 close brothers, said that not tracing the missing persons is a failure of the police and the system.
In front of a two-member bench headed by Justice Nimatullah Phalphoto, the applications related to the recovery of 2 siblings including other missing persons were heard. The mother of the missing citizens said that siblings Muaz and Talha went missing from Landhi and Airport areas.
The public prosecutor submitted that the investigating officer has changed, the new investigating officer should be given time. 35 JITs, 12 provincial task force meetings have been held to trace Muaz and Talha.
The public prosecutor further said that the missing citizen Muhammad Javed belonged to MQM Altaf group. Javed’s enforced disappearance has not been proved, evidence shows that the citizen is missing due to personal enmity.
The court remarked that despite dozens of JITs and Provincial Task Force meetings, the missing persons could not be traced. Justice Nimatullah Phalphoto remarked that the failure to trace the missing persons is a failure of the police and the system.
He said that the JITs and the task force chief should examine the cases of missing persons from every angle. The court sought a report from the Federal Secretary Interior, Foreign Office and other institutions.
The court also sought a report on the recovery of Muhammad Farhan, Muhammad Waqas and others and ordered concrete steps to be taken to recover the missing persons.
