Karachi: The Sindh Higher Education Commission abolished the status of four permanent members in the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee and approved the inclusion of Vice Chancellors from more government universities as well as private universities while expanding the “pool of members” in the committee. gave
This approval was given during the recent meeting of the commission while keeping in front the report based on the inspection of public and private universities by the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee.
Despite the expansion of the “pool of members” in the committee, the seats of permanent members will remain 4, however, if necessary, the existing permanent members will be replaced by other public or private sector vice-chancellors of the same field for universities in the same field. Will join.
Currently, the permanent members include Vice Chancellors of University of Karachi, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Mehran Engineering University and Sindh Agricultural University, Tondojam.
In the commission meeting, one member, Dr. Naushad Shaikh, was also allowed to act as the acting chairman of the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee on a temporary basis, this temporary arrangement has been modified as a stop gap arrangement.
However, sources say that since Dr Naushad Shaikh himself is also a member of the commission and his temporary chairman CI&EC has been selected as a member commission, he will not get any salary for working in this temporary position.
According to the report received by “Express” of the recent meeting of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, during the meeting, the member of the commission and Vice Chancellor of NED University, Professor Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, raised the issue of inspecting private and public universities for a long time. There is no permanent chairman of the Walli Charter Committee.
He said that the Chairman HEC has the charge of the post so it would be appropriate if a member of the commission is assigned to run the affairs of the committee.
Dr. Nowshad Sheikh was the only member of the commission at that time, who did not have the responsibility of any university or institution at that time after resigning from the chairmanship of PMC, so these matters were temporarily handed over to him.
Besides, on the same occasion, the issue was raised by Commission member Dr. Sarosh Lodhi that due to the frequent non-availability of various members of the Committee, Charter Inspection and Evaluation issues or visits are affected.
It was informed that the four members are also vice chancellors of their respective universities and they have to leave the affairs of the universities and come to the committee’s visits and now the committee has not only private universities but also the inspection of 27 public universities of Sindh. is also responsible.
It should be noted that according to the minutes of the meeting, this objection and proposal was supported by the heads of universities and institutions belonging to the private sector, Noman Abid Lakhani and Nadira Panjwani, after which the commission decided that the number of permanent members in the committee Four will remain, while one co-opted member will remain.
However, now the pool of vice-chancellors of University of Karachi, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Mehran Engineering University and Sindh Agricultural University Tando Jam will be expanded to include more vice-chancellors from the public and private sectors.
This meant that there would be many visits in which the committee did not include the vice-chancellor of the university due to unavailability or inconsistency with the subject, but it was initiated by the new interim head Dr. Naushad Shaikh. Will be.
