Karachi: Leader of Pakistan People’s Party and Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab has been elected UC Chairman unopposed from Malir district of Karachi.
The Election Commission has also issued a notification of Murtaza Wahab’s uncontested victory. Returning Officer of Union Council (UC) 8 Ibrahim Haidari of Malir released Form 7 of Success of Murtaza Wahab.
It should be noted that Murtaza Wahab had to win the UC Chairman election in 6 months to retain the mayorship.
On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami filed an appeal in the Sindh High Court challenging the decision of the Election Tribunal against the approval of the nomination papers of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab from Kemari District.
In the appeal filed through the mediation of Usman Farooq Advocate, the stand has been adopted that the Election Tribunal had rejected the petitioner’s appeal yesterday. The Election Tribunal did not decide the petition in accordance with law. The Election Tribunal upheld the Returning Officer’s decision.
It has been stated in the petition that the returning officer had accepted the nomination papers of Murtaza Wahab as valid.
It should be noted that 2 candidates of Tehreek-e-Insaf and one candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami challenged the approval of Murtaza Wahab’s nomination papers in the Election Tribunal.
