Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification to increase the price of gas by 113%, which will be applicable only for the month of January.

According to the notification issued by Ogra, domestic consumers have been divided into protected and non-protected categories. The announcement said that 4 slabs of protected categories have been created, the protected category includes consumers of 25 cubic meters per month, while the consumers of 50 cubic meters, 60 cubic meters and 90 cubic meters per month are also included in the protected category.

According to Alamiya, gas has been increased by 16 to 113 percent for various sectors including domestic consumers. The increase has been made on the advice of the Petroleum Division, the domestic consumers have been divided into 12 categories of protected and non-protected. The fixed charge has been increased by Rs 50 on protected customers and Rs 500 on non-protected customers.

According to the notification, exemption was given to domestic consumers who consume 25 cubic meters of gas per month, while the gas tariff of 2 categories of protected domestic consumers has been reduced by 16 and 33%.

The price of gas for commercial consumers has increased by 28.6%, the new price has become 1650 rupees, while the price of gas for the power sector has increased by 22.8%, the new price has become 1050 rupees, while the gas price for industries has increased by 34%, the new price has become 1100 rupees for the CNG sector, after the gas price has increased by 31%. The new price has become 1800 rupees. Similarly, the price of gas for fertilizer has increased by 46%, the new price has become 1500 rupees. Gas for the cement sector is 17.46% more expensive, the new price has become Rs.1500.
