The United Arab Emirates will provide additional aid of 50 million dollars to Syria affected by the devastating earthquake on the instructions of the President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.
The new aid amounts are in addition to the $50 million previously provided to Syria, a country wracked by civil war since 2011 and badly hit by a recent earthquake.
It should be remembered that 500,000 people have died in Syria due to the civil war, while half of the country’s population has taken refuge in Turkey and other neighboring countries.
A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake earlier this month and several aftershocks have caused widespread destruction in Syria.
Of the $50 million ($50 million), $20 million is earmarked for Syria’s UN emergency aid appeal for humanitarian projects, according to the state-run Emirates News Agency on Wednesday.
The UAE has so far sent 1,243 metric tons of food, medicine, tents and other relief items to Syria through 38 flights.
