Preparations have been made to import 2 lakh metric tonnes of urea to meet the consumption of fertilizer during the Rabi season.
According to the sources, approval will be taken from Economic Coordination Committee to import urea fertilizer this month, the demand for wheat crop during December to January will be met with the imported fertilizer.
Sources of industry and production say that if fertilizer is not imported, there is a fear of shortage of fertilizer in the current season, the fertilizer manufacturing plant will also be in full production by March 2024 without interruption of gas supply.
According to sources, if the demand is not met by importing 2 lakh metric tons of urea fertilizer, 3 lakh more urea will be imported. To meet the consumption of fertilizer, the federal and provincial governments will import urea on sharing basis.
Sources from the Ministry of Industry and Production have issued a warning and said that if timely management is not done, there is a fear of shortage of urea fertilizer from December.
