Chennai: During the match against Australia, the Indian team created a new record in the history of ODI cricket.
In the fifth match of the World Cup in Chennai on Sunday, Australia had given India a target of 200 runs to win, in pursuit of which India’s three wickets fell for a total score of just 2 runs.
According to ECPN Cricket Info, this is the first time in the history of the Indian cricket team that three of their top four batsmen have left the pavilion without opening an account.
Both India’s openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kushan were dismissed for duck while the number four batsman Shreyas Iyer also returned to the pavilion without scoring a run.
Both the openers have returned to the pavilion without opening their account seven times in the history of Indian cricket, the last of which happened nearly twenty years ago in 2004 against Zimbabwe.
In the eighth over, Mitchell Marsh dropped an easy catch to Virat Kohli on 12 off Josh Hazlewood’s ball, which proved costly for Australia.
If he had taken this catch, India would have lost four wickets on the total score of 20 runs, which would have strengthened Australia’s grip on the match.
Later, Virat Kohli provided full support to the team by scoring a half-century in the same match.
