Lahore: Punjab Wildlife got approval from Election Commission for mega project in Lahore Zoo and Safari Park, construction work will start after receiving funds from Finance Department.
Lahore Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park Antamiya have started preparations to start the work on emergency basis after the approval of the development projects by the Election Commission.
Various projects will be completed in accordance with international standards including bringing new animals and birds in Lahore Zoo with a sum of 1 billion 83 crore 64 lakh rupees.
According to the Lahore Zoo officials, the development work will start after receiving the funds from the Finance Department, all the preparations are complete. The upgradation project of Lahore Zoo will be completed in two years, but some important works will be completed in two to two and a half months.
Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab wishes to inaugurate in the middle of January. According to the zoo administration, the zoo will be closed for tourists when the development work starts.
New animals and birds will be brought to the zoo with an amount of 66 crore rupees, most of which will be African animals. The Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab is also likely to receive a panda as a gift from China, which will be kept in the Lahore Zoo.
Pandey is not involved in the development project, it will be a gift from China. Employees will also come from China to take care of the panda and stay here for two years. The maintenance, food and salaries of the Chinese employees who look after the panda will be paid by Lahore Zoo.
The zoo’s existing parking lot will be expanded, a new entrance gate on Mall Road, a high-quality food court will be constructed and a hippopotamus will be released in a glass pond. Apart from this, for the first time in Pakistan, through virtual reality, the ancient and rare animals will be seen through hologram technology.
Similarly, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees and other animals will also be brought to Lahore Safari Zoo. Food court, night safari facility will be introduced and it will be the most important and standard entertainment center of the city. Major projects of the Safari Park include the creation of a new safari on the desert, African theme.
Safari Park Deputy Director Ghulam Rasool said that all the paperwork has been completed in collaboration with the Works Department, now only the Finance Department is waiting for the funds to be received.
On the other hand, the Judicial Water and Environmental Commission has suggested to the Lahore High Court that the construction project should not be started during the smog season, which has been approved by the Lahore High Court.
According to the instructions of the Lahore High Court, no new development project can be started until February next year, if Punjab Wildlife follows the instructions of the Lahore High Court, then the upgradation work of the zoos cannot be started until February 2024.
However, Lahore Zoo officials said that they have not received any official instructions yet.
