New Delhi: As a result of continuous rains in the Indian state of Sikkim, a glacial lake burst and frozen floodwaters entered the Rela residential area and swept away more than 100 people.
According to Indian media, a high-altitude glacial lake in Mogothang region of Sikkim state burst due to continuous rains and rapid flood relays destroyed everything in its path.

The state has set up 21 relief camps, while Chief Sec VB Pathak requested Centre’s intervention in an emergency meeting to help the 22k+ affected.

The floodwaters also entered an army camp and washed away 22 personnel while the military installations were also heavily damaged. A total of 4 districts of Sikkim state were affected by the flood.

The bodies of 14 of the 120 people swept away in the flood have been recovered, while the search for the others is hampered by bad weather. 25 relief camps are also falling short to attend to the affected people.

14 bridges have been destroyed in the affected areas and many areas have been cut off due to which relief operations are facing difficulties. The death toll is expected to increase due to the delay in the arrival of relief personnel and supplies.
