Request to Sindh High Court to form a judicial commission on Skrund incident

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Government of Sindh, Interior Minister Sindh, IG Sindh and other parties on the petitions filed for a judicial inquiry into the incident that took place in Mari Jalbani village of Skarund.

In front of a two-member bench headed by Justice Nimatullah Phalphoto, a hearing was held on the petitions of Zulfikar Jalbani, the former vice chairman of the Sindh Bar Council, and Tehmas Rizvi, Advocate, against the Mari Jalbani incident in the village of Skarund.

Barrister Salahuddin, the lawyer of the petitioners, took the stand that a judicial commission should be formed under the chairmanship of a serving judge of the High Court for the inquiry into the tragedy of Mari Jalbani village in Skarund.

He said that a judicial commission should be formed to investigate the incident directly and a case should be filed against the involved persons and arrested.

In the petition, action was requested against the officials involved in the incident and it was decided that the High Court judge should supervise the investigation to ensure transparency.

The court while accepting the application issued notices to the Sindh government, Sindh Interior Minister, IG Sindh and other parties for the next hearing. The court adjourned the hearing for a week.

It should be noted that on September 28, during a raid in the village of Mari Jalbani in Skarund, four people were killed and twelve were injured. Later, the residents of the area staged a sit-in with the dead bodies on the National Highway, so the caretaker chief minister took notice and set up a committee to investigate.
