Male: In the presidential elections held in the Maldives, the pro-China candidate Muhammad Muizhu has won.
According to international media reports, Muhammad Mu’izzu won 54.06 percent of the votes in the presidential election, after which the current president, Ibrahim Muhammad Saleh, conceded his defeat shortly before midnight.
Saleh wrote on the social networking website X that congratulations to the newly elected President Moizo. I also congratulate those who have demonstrated a peaceful and democratic process in the elections.
Muhammed Mu’izzu gave a brief speech outside his party’s campaign headquarters and urged supporters not to celebrate until early Sunday morning until electoral restrictions were officially lifted.
It should be noted that the 61-year-old current President Ibrahim Muhammad will serve as Caretaker President until November 17, when Moizo takes office.
