Karachi: A 7-day anti-polio campaign will begin in 30 districts of Sindh from October 2, during which more than one crore children under 5 years of age will be administered polio vaccine.
Under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Muhammad Fakhar Alam, an important meeting of the Provincial Task Force for Anti-Polio was held in the office of the Chief Secretary, in which the preparation, implementation and security of the workers for the 7-day anti-polio campaign starting from October 2 were discussed. Several decisions were made.
In the meeting, the overall situation of polio virus and its prevention was reviewed. Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Sindh Irshad Ali Sudhar while briefing the meeting said that no case of polio has been reported in Sindh for the last 3 years which is a big success and continuing this success is a big challenge.
Irshad Ali Sudhar further informed that the process of staff training for polio campaign has been completed. He said that during the campaign, polio drops and vitamin A supplements will also be given to the children.
Speaking to the meeting on this occasion, Chief Secretary Sindh Dr. Muhammad Fakhr Alam said that the anti-polio campaign should be started in the existing high-risk union councils in an effective manner so that substantial results can be achieved.
In this regard, the Chief Secretary Sindh directed all Deputy Commissioners to closely monitor the polio campaign and also submit reports to their respective officers on a daily basis.
Jeff Secretary Sindh while instructing the health department said that anti-polio shots should be administered to children at all railway stations and bus stands.
He also directed the officials of the education department that during the campaign anti-polio drops should be administered to the children in private and public schools as well.
It should be remembered that in the polio campaign starting from October 2, more than 10 million children will be administered anti-polio drops, in which more than 80 thousand polio workers and supervisors will participate.
In the meeting, on the announcement of aid by the Sindh government for the polio worker Huma Ashraf, who was injured in a train accident while on duty, the Chief Secretary said that the government will give one crore rupees to the polio worker Huma Ashraf and in this regard. Instructions have been issued to the Finance Department.
