Karachi: The Election Commission has sought a response from all parties on the request of the mayor and deputy mayor in Karachi not to follow the party policy.
A 3-member commission headed by the Chief Election Commissioner heard the application. PTI’s counsel appeared before the commission and submitted that 30 PTI councilors did not follow the party policy. According to the Political Party Act, the members are bound to implement the party policy. Only 7 of the defiant members responded to the notice sent. They had a stand that they did not come to vote for fear of arrest. 30 defiant PTI councilors should be de-seated and disqualified.
The DG Law Election Commission replied to this that no action can be taken against defecting members under Section 63A. There is no floor crossing. The hearing of the case was adjourned till October 17.
