The Election Commission has released the schedule for the by-elections in Sindh

Karachi: The Election Commission has released the schedule for the by-elections in Sindh, under which elections will be held on 74 seats on November 5.

According to the rules, the mayor and deputy mayor of Karachi also have to participate in the elections, while on October 19 and 20, the successful candidates will be announced on 812 specific seats.

According to the notification of the Election Commission of Pakistan, candidates can submit nomination papers for the seats of 9 chairman, 16 vice chairman, 8 member district council and 41 general members in 4 districts of Karachi and 21 districts of Sindh from 5 to 7 October 2023. will

Apart from this, the documents will be checked by October 11, appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officer can be filed by October 16, and decisions on these appeals will be made by October 19. Election marks will be allotted on the date. On November 5, polling will be held in these seats from 8 am to 5 pm without any break, while the Election Commission will announce the results on October 8.

Under the Local Government Act, Mayor and Deputy Mayor Karachi and Deputy Mayor Sukkur also have to participate in this election. On the other hand, the announcement of the successful candidates for the specific seats of Union Councils and Union Committees will be made on October 19, while the successful candidates for the specific seats of Councils, Committees and Corporations will be announced on October 20.

Public notice for reserved seats of both categories will be released on October 2. During the supplementary local elections, there will be a ban on the announcement of development projects, issuance of funds, transfers and appointments of federal and provincial institutions in the respective divisions and districts, the offices of the Election Commission and Returning Officers will remain open even during weekly holidays
