The teaching of students of the evening program has been put at stake due to the one-week boycott by the teachers’ association in Karachi University. He challenged the debate by calling it the basis.

According to the details, the dispute over payments of 7 crores has put the future of 10,000 students of the evening program at stake.

The teachers, who have been boycotting classes for 8 days, are of the view that regular and visiting faculty have not been paid for the last one and a half years.

The boycott was forced due to continuous delay in the payment of evening’s advertisements and no substantial progress despite several assurances.

Faizan Naqvi, Secretary of the Teachers Association, while talking to Express, said that the regular and visiting faculty of the University of Karachi have not been paid for the evening program for the last one and a half years and now this amount has exceeded 7 crore rupees in the evening program in total. It is going on. When I had a meeting with the VC, he assured me to pay the remaining dues in 2 months, but no notification was issued. All the employees are getting their salaries. But the problem has not been solved yet.

About 250 permanent teachers are teaching part-time in the evening program and the rest are taught by visiting faculty. Dr. Saleha Rehman, President of Karachi University Teachers Association, criticized Sheikh Al Jamia and said that the teachers are also deprived of increment if seventy percent of the students attend the evening program. If I did not pay the fee, the administration should improve the system. We studied for three semesters of 6 months, but the dues have not been paid yet.

On the other hand, the vice chancellor of the University of Karachi dismissed the demands of the teachers’ association as baseless and said that in the last 3 years, 70 percent of the students have not paid the fees, while despite the inflation, the Higher Education Commission has not increased the grant since 2018.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi while talking to Express said that evening program is self-financed i.e. it is run by student fees, evening program does not get any support from HEC, morning teachers were given leave encashment from evening due to which The evening program went into loss, out of 18 crores, 11 crores have been paid and the rest will be paid in two and a half months.

He said that on the recommendations of some chairpersons, the program was started even though there were 25 students in some evening programs, whereas under the formula, there was a requirement to enroll 35 students in the department. There are 45,000 students studying in the morning program, while there are more than 10,000 students in the evening program. Will come forward.

On the other hand, the students affected by the conflict between the teachers and the vice-chancellor said that their future is being played on the pretext of personal interest and personal grudge. Anam of the evening program said that for the past one week, the teachers in the university have boycotted their classes and are sitting in their homes, including me. Students from distant areas come daily and go back worried.

Usman, a zoology student, said that this semester is short anyway, three months are also important in which the teachers have boycotted, how will the course be completed now? Come here, the class is locked, the vice chancellor is requested to find a solution to this problem as soon as possible.
