Barry and Mary Ford
Edinburgh: A British-American arrived in Scotland from America with his wife to run the world’s oldest post-off.
Barry Ford, from Lincolnshire, England, and his wife Mary, from North Lanarkshire, have been living in Florida for the past 20 years.
Three years ago, he came to know about the sale of the 311-year-old Sanquaher Post Office, after which he tried to buy it.
Barry Ford owns a company in Lakeland that cleans their planes for private jet owners. Both wanted to buy a business in the UK where their ailing mothers were living.
He made an offer to buy the post office, but succeeded in buying the business on his second attempt.
After purchasing the post office, Barry Ford became the 17th postmaster of the oldest post office in the world.
