Karachi: Pakistan showbiz legendary actor and director Zia Mohiuddin passed away.
Prominent actor, TV host and renowned director Zia Mohiuddin passed away in Karachi after prolonged illness. The 91-year-old legendary artist was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Karachi for the past few days.
Zia Mohiuddin was born on June 20, 1931 in Faisalabad, Punjab. The legendary actor performed in theater and stage early in his career, training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1953 to 1956.
In 1960, Zia Mohiuddin played the role of Dr. Aziz in the stage play of EM’s novel ‘Passage to India’ and later acted in the famous film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. He remained attached to the stage and acted in countless plays as well as Hollywood films.
When he came to Pakistan in 1970, he started a stage program called ‘Zia Mohiuddin Show’ on Pakistan Television which became very popular.
Zia Mohiuddin was awarded the Star of Distinction by the Government of Pakistan in 2003. In 2012, he was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan, and in 2017, he was also awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Pakistani community based in Dubai.
Zia Mohiuddin’s father had the honor of being the writer and dialogue writer of Pakistan’s first film Teri Yaad, while Zia Mohiuddin held the presidency of the National Academy of Performing Arts from its establishment.
His funeral prayer was offered at Defense Phase 4 Imambargah Yathrab after Zuhr prayer.
