Karachi: The Provincial Caretaker Cabinet approved the launch of a comprehensive operation against robbers, drug mafia, street criminals.
A meeting was held in the Chief Minister House under the chairmanship of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqer, in which the Provincial Caretaker Cabinet along with the Army and Rangers decided to wipe out robbers, launch a crackdown against organized arms smuggling groups and strengthen intelligence. Apart from this, the cabinet has decided to prevent street crimes in Karachi and to start operations against street criminals and drug mafia.
Interior Minister Brigadier (retd) Haris Nawaz and IG Police Rifat Mukhtar briefed the cabinet on overall law and order including kidnapping for ransom, street crime and drug mafia in the Kutch area.
While sharing the data of 2012-13, the Chief Minister was told that 218 people were kidnapped, out of which 207 were recovered and 11 are still in the clutches of miscreants. On a question, the Chief Minister was told that when the current IG Police assumed office, there were 57 cases of abduction, out of which 46 were recovered and efforts are on to recover the remaining 11 persons.
