In a report, the Afghan transit trade has been identified as a major cause of damage to Pakistan’s economy.
According to the report, Afghan transit trade is the main reason for the establishment of black market in Pakistan, Afghan officials and businessmen make false declarations to Pakistan Customs while importing goods.
The report states that goods are imported under transit trade which are not used in Afghanistan, the goods imported under Afghan transit trade are sold in Pakistan.
According to the report, even if goods go to Afghanistan under transit trade, they are smuggled back to Pakistan. Afghanistan’s imports under transit trade have increased by 67%.
According to the report, Afghan imports, which were 4 billion dollars last year, increased to 6.71 billion dollars in 2022-23.
The report states that Pakistan’s small and medium scale industry has been badly affected by the Afghan transit trade.
The report further states that the Afghan transit trade has a negative impact on the Pakistani economy.
The report suggested that Afghan transit trade should be regulated in accordance with international laws prevailing in the world.
