Asia Cup;  India reached the final after defeating Sri Lanka

Colombo: In the fourth match of the Asia Cup Super Four stage, India defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs and reached the final.

In the match played in Colombo, India had given Sri Lanka a target of 214 runs to win, in response to which the Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 172 runs in 41.3 overs.

Sri Lanka’s innings

Despite a low target from India, the Sri Lankan team did not get off to a good start and lost 6 wickets before 100 runs.

Openers Patham Nissanka scored 6 runs and Dimut Karunaratne scored 2 runs. Kushal Mendes 15 and Sudira Samaravkarma 17, Charith Asalanka 22 and captain Dasun Shanaka 9 runs proved to be the visitors.

Sri Lanka were all out for 99 in 25.1 overs after which Dhananjaya de Silva and Donit Valalj put on a much-needed partnership of 63 runs.

The match was in Sri Lanka’s grasp when D’Silva lost his wicket to Ravindra Jadeja on 41 runs, after which Sri Lanka’s hopes of winning the match ended.

After D’Silva’s dismissal, Sri Lanka lost wickets quickly and the whole team was bowled out for 172 runs.

Mahesh Tekshana 2, Kasun Rajitha 1 and Mathisha Patherana were out for nil. India’s 5-wicket taker Donit Valalj also excelled in batting and remained unbeaten with 42 runs off 46 balls.

Indian bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who took 5 wickets in the previous match against Pakistan, also took 4 wickets in the match against Sri Lanka.

Jasprit Bumrah and Rondra Jadeja took 2, 2 while Mohammad Siraj, Hardik Pandya got one wicket each.

India’s innings

Indian team captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Thanks to the disastrous bowling of the Sri Lankan bowlers, the Indian team collapsed for 213 runs in 49.1 overs.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shibman Gill provided an aggressive start, but Shibman was dismissed for 19 runs on a total score of 80, Rohit 53, Virat Kohli 3, Ishan Kishan 33 while KL Rahul returned to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs.

Hardik Pandya 5, Ravindra Jadeja 4, Jasprit Bumrah 5 Kuldeep Yadav returned to the pavilion for zero.

After the completion of 47 overs, the match was stopped due to rain. At that time, India scored 197 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

When the match resumed after the rain, India added another 16 runs to the score, after which Akshar Patel was dismissed for 26 runs in 49.1 overs while Mohammad Siraj remained not out for 5 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Donath Velalje got 5, Charith Asalanka got 4 and Mahesh Theakshana got one out.
