Lahore: Senator of Pakistan Muslim League-N and former IG Sindh Rana Maqbool Ahmed passed away. He was ill for some time and was under treatment at a local private hospital for 2 days.
He died on Tuesday morning in a private hospital in Lahore. According to sources, Rana Maqbool Ahmed’s funeral prayer will be offered tomorrow or the day after his son’s arrival from abroad.
Rana Maqbool Ahmed was also the former Sindh Police Chief (IG). Apart from this, he was also appointed as the Prosecutor General of Punjab. Rana Maqbool Ahmed was elected senator with the support of Muslim League-N in 2018, after which he was also the chairman of the Senate Cabinet Committee. As a member of the Senate of Pakistan, Rana Maqbool Ahmed did special work regarding amendments in criminal laws.
Late Rana Maqbool Ahmed was also accused of torturing and biting the tongue of Asif Ali Zardari. Asif Ali Zardari filed a case against Rana Maqbool Ahmed which was later dismissed by the court. Rana Maqbool Ahmed gained notoriety for allegedly torturing political opponents and setting up false cases during the second term of Nawaz Sharif’s regime. Rana Maqbool Ahmed was also a co-accused of Nawaz Sharif in the 1999 Pervez Musharraf plane conspiracy case.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani expressed his condolences by telephoning Rana Maqbool’s son.
The President of Pakistan Muslim League-N and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed his condolences on the death of Rana Maqbool Ahmed and said that the deceased was a person of high stature, his services will be remembered for a long time. PML-N Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer Maryam Aurangzeb has also expressed sympathy and condolences to the family of Rana Maqbool Ahmed.
