Caretaker government wants to make Pakistan an economic hub, Finance Minister

Islamabad: Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar has said that for economic prosperity, attention should be given to facilitate investment by ending the dependence on tax exemptions.

According to the details, a meeting of the Special Technology Zone and Special Economic Zone Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Caretaker Federal Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, in which the progress regarding the facilities and incentives in the Special Technology Zones and Special Economic Zones was reviewed.

Minister IT Dr Umar Saif, Advisor to Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, Senator Rafnanullah, Secretary Finance, Secretary Law, Chairman FBR, Chairman STZ, Chairman CDA and senior officers of Ministry of Finance and FBR participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the comparative model of Special Technology Zones and the progress and challenges in the existing Special Technology Zones and Special Economic Zones were informed.

In the meeting, there was a comprehensive and detailed discussion on the facilities and incentives available in special technology zones and special economic zones, making them active and efficient and in accordance with the needs of contemporary technology, while the participants were told that 8 special technology zones have been announced in which 5 are fully functional.

In the meeting, the participants also reviewed the strategies and policies for the purpose of innovation, economic growth and innovation in technology to operate special technology zones and special economic zones and to attract domestic and international investment for this purpose.

Emphasizing the key importance of Special Technology Zones and Special Economic Zones for the development and growth of the national economy, the Finance Minister said that the government is determined to make the country a center of technological development and economic prosperity, but for this, we have to give tax exemptions. Instead of dependence, focus should be on facilitating business and investment.

He expressed hope that as a result of discussions and recommendations, special technology zones and special economic zones will be helped to run in an effective and active manner. Shamshad Akhtar said that the caretaker government wants to make Pakistan a technology and economic hub.

The Federal Finance Minister said that special technology and special economic zones want to provide a friendly environment for business.
