Garbage tax imposed on rural union councils in Punjab

Lahore: Municipalities department imposed garbage tax on 2468 rural union councils across Punjab.

A tax of Rs 50 per month will be collected from residential houses and Rs 100 from shops, while a tax of Rs 1,000 has been imposed on petrol pumps, marriage halls and service stations. A monthly tax of Rs 2,000 will be collected from the industrial unit.

7,404 sentry workers have been recruited for the project and 12,000 village councils have also been formed.

Villages will shine, but five billion 18 lakh 28 thousand rupees will be spent annually and 4 billion two and a half crore rupees will be collected in taxes.

According to Local Government Secretary Dr. Muhammad Irshad, sanitation facilities will be provided in villages on the pattern of cities. For a successful project tax has been levied, Patwari Lumberdars will help collect garbage tax.
