It has been revealed about the domestic violence of famous Indian singer Asha Bhosle.
One of the most influential and versatile singers of Bollywood, Asha Bhosle is known as the Queen of ‘Indie Pop’.
In the era of romantic and classical songs, Asha graced the films by singing Jawani Jaan-i Man, Dum Maru Dum, Piya To Ab To Aja, Yeh Mera Dil Yaar Ka Deewana, Hingama Ho Gaya and many other hip-hop songs.
Asha Bhosle spoke about her tragic marriage to Ganpat Rao Bhosle, who is 20 years her senior, during an interview in which she revealed her abuse in the past.
When 16-year-old Asha Bhosle got married to 31-year-old Ganpat Rao
16-year-old Asha ran away and married 31-year-old Ganpat Rao Bhosle in 1949 against her family’s wishes.
Singer Asha’s sister, renowned singer Lata Mangeshkar was very upset with the marriage and immediately broke all ties with her sister Asha, while the Mangeshkar family also cut off contact with her.
After Asha’s son Hemant was born, the Mangeshkar family accepted her.
Asha Bhosle’s family was just getting better when her husband, Ganpat Rao Bhosle, objected to his wife’s meeting with his sister Lata. Ganpat Rao often harassed Asha for money during the 1950s. And started forbidding to meet sister Lata.
Asha’s husband, Ganpat Rao, accused his wife of infidelity and started fights in the house which later escalated into domestic violence.
In 1960, Ganpat Rao asked Asha to leave the house, during which Asha was about to give birth to her third child Anand, the same year Asha and Ganpat Rao separated and this proved to be a turning point for Asha.
Along with Asha, she had three children to look after, while the singer focused on her career and gave back-to-back hit songs.
Asha Bhosle had to tell Indian journalist Kavita Chhabar in an old interview that ‘I got married at a very young age to a man who was 20 years older than me. He didn’t talk to me, he refused to help me.’
Talking about her father-in-law, the singer said that my father-in-law was very narrow-minded, he could not afford a singer-daughter-in-law.
During this interview, the singer also revealed the abuse and misbehavior by her husband and in-laws.
She said that I was subjected to only ill-treatment and mistreatment by my in-laws and finally I was asked to leave the house when I was about to give birth to my youngest son, during which time I was with my mother, sisters. And came back to my brother, I don’t blame anyone and I don’t have any ill will, I feel that if I hadn’t met Mr. Bhosle, I wouldn’t have these three beautiful children and my life would be fine.
It should be remembered that after separation from Ganpat Rao, singer Asha Bhosle married RD Burman in 1980.
This marriage also broke up after 14 years due to RD Burman’s heavy drinking.
