Islamabad: The High Court restrained the Deputy Commissioner from issuing MPO orders until further notice.
The plea against Shahryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar’s arrest under the MPO was heard in the Islamabad High Court, in which the court temporarily restrained the DC Islamabad from exercising the three MPO powers.
During the hearing, Justice Babar Sattar inquired that under what authority does DC Islamabad use the authority of MPO?
Arguments were made in the court by the law officer, on which the court inquired under which jurisdiction the District Magistrate is issuing the MPO? You have submitted only the notification of 1965? Declaring the State Council’s response unsatisfactory, the court issued notices to the Attorney General for assistance regarding the constitutionality and legality of the 3MPOs.
Justice Babar Sattar while talking to DC Islamabad said that you will not pass any order of MPO until the next hearing, DC sir you understand right? Tell me where in the law you are using this option.
Later, the court extended the order not to arrest Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar in any case and adjourned the hearing.
