Australia: Women and men aged 65 and over can avoid the risk of type 2 diabetes by taking low-dose aspirin, experts have said after a study.
However, experts warn that it is better to use aspirin on the advice of your doctor rather than taking it yourself. That’s because taking aspirin has its pros and cons, but new research shows that regular aspirin use can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 15 percent in people age 65 and older.
It should be noted that in 2022, the US Service Health Force, after some observations, said that elderly people may suffer from internal bleeding and some cardiovascular diseases by eating aspirin because blood thinning problems can occur at this age.
But aspirin has also been found to protect against several types of cancer, including ovarian cancer in women.
Now the new research includes 16,000 people aged 65 and over, analyzed by Monash University. All the elderly were divided into two groups, one group was given 100 grams of aspirin daily while the other group was fed a placebo. However, he was free from heart diseases, dementia and other disorders, i.e. he was also quite healthy.
The study lasted for nearly 4 years and 8 months and found that regular aspirin intake reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes by a statistically significant 15%.
This is good news but experts are now trying to find the scientific reason for it.
