The sugar crisis in the country is feared to be severe.

TCP wrote a letter to Pakistan’s commercial attaché in Brazil for import of 100,000 metric tons of sugar.

According to the sources of Food Department of Punjab, imported sugar is being ordered in Pakistan at the rate of 220 rupees per kg.

The Food Department currently has a carry-forward of 10 lakh tonnes of surplus sugar, the department will have to use the reserves of surplus sugar.

Sources say that when the surplus sugar reserves are exhausted, imported sugar will come into the market, citizens will be forced to buy sugar at the official rate of Rs 100 per kg at Rs 220 per kg.

Sources of Punjab Food Department say that citizens will have to pay 120 rupees more for one kg of sugar.
