Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been in virtual contact.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar has contacted IMF representative Esther Perez during which talks have been held for relief in electricity bills.
Sources in the Ministry of Finance have said that during the discussion, the IMF was informed about the situation after the increase in electricity bills.
Sources in the Ministry of Finance say that various proposals for relief in electricity bills have been submitted to the IMF by the Pakistani Ministry of Finance.
Finance Ministry sources have said that the IMF has taken a briefing on Pakistan’s stand for relief in electricity bills and has asked for a written plan in this regard.
According to Finance Ministry sources, the written plan is likely to be sent to the IMF this evening.
Sources in the finance ministry said that the IMF will respond after seeing the written plan on electricity bills.
On the other hand, sources said that the FBR officials have also had a virtual meeting with the IMF, during which the IMF has discussed in detail about the tax collections in July.
Sources have also said that in the next few days the FBR officials and the IMF will be in touch again.
