Order to reinstate 551 Daily Wage teachers teaching in Model Colleges of Islamabad

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Education ordered the reinstatement of 551 daily wages teachers teaching in Islamabad’s Model Colleges.

The Director General and Director of Colleges of the Federal Ministry of Education, on verbal orders, stopped 551 teachers teaching in Islamabad’s model colleges from coming to their institutions from August 10.

The representatives of the affected teachers contacted the chairman committee Senator Irfan Siddiqui and requested for help, on which the matter was placed on the agenda of the standing committee meeting to be held today.

The meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Education and Vocational Training was chaired by Chairman and Senator Irfan Siddiqui. At the behest of the committee chairman, the DG and the director of education tried to convince that this was done on a court order, but they could not produce any clear court order in this regard.

He also referred to the opinion of the Ministry of Law, but the representatives of the Law Division in the committee explained that it was a routine response and no specific opinion was sought by the Ministry of Education.

On the inquiry of the chairman committee, it was informed that the education secretary was present in the cabinet meeting, on which the officials of the ministry were asked to call the secretary after taking a ten-minute break in the committee meeting. Ten minutes later, Education Secretary Waseem Ajmal also came to the committee meeting.

Meanwhile, the senators in the committee reacted strongly and said that the Ministry of Education has taken criminal action by unjustifiably dismissing the teachers who have been employed for fifteen years.

In the committee meeting, female teacher Rabia Waheed, representing the affected teachers, presented her position in detail and also read out the relevant court decisions.

After a long discussion, Center Irfan Siddiqui ruled that all 551 teachers should be immediately reinstated to their August 9 positions.

Secretary Education informed that in this regard a committee has been established under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University Dr. Niaz Ahmed, on which Committee Chairman Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that the committee should continue its work, but the affected teachers should be included. should also be represented.

The Committee thanked the Education Secretary for taking a sympathetic stand and hoped that this important matter would be settled in a good manner forever.

However, the committee expressed strong displeasure at the behavior of two officials of the ministry, DGFDE and Director Colleges, and referred the matter to the Senate Privileges Committee for action against them on the charge of misleading the committee.

The committee also discussed the issue of dismissed Montessori teachers. Secretary Education assured that they will be employed very soon.
On the issue of promotion of teachers and vice principals of grades 17 and 18 in federal educational institutions, the officials of the ministry assured the committee that necessary action will be taken soon in this regard.
In the committee meeting, the action on various bills related to the establishment of new higher education institutions in the country was postponed due to the non-attendance of the promoters.

In the committee meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the non-appointment of Pakistan chairs in international universities and the issue of being vacant for a long time.

After necessary consideration, the Chairman Committee assigned the responsibility to the Chairman HEC to sit together with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the matters of appointment to these international chairs and submit a report in this regard within ten days. should be sent to the committee.
