Russia Detains Former US Consulate Official on Espionage Charges
Russia alleges that an official named Robert Shunoff passed the information on to American diplomats.
Robert Shunoff is a Russian citizen who worked at the US Consulate in Vladivostok.
Russia’s intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service, says that Robert provided information to the United States regarding the war in Ukraine and Russia’s proposed 2024 presidential election.
The Secret Service said it arrested Robert Shunoff in May and stopped his illegal activities.
The Secret Service says it will also investigate US embassy officials who were in contact with Robert.
The US Embassy stated in May that the charges against Robert Shunoff were against the leadership.
Robert’s only job was to summarize and file media reports from Russia, the statement said.
