Stage artists demand that elements spreading obscenity in theaters be punished

Lahore: Closing the theaters is not the solution to the problem, the artistes who are promoting obscenity should be punished, the stage employs thousands of people and should be saved from unemployment.

These views were expressed by theater actors Tahir Anjum, Amanat Chan, Qaiser Piya, Shahid Khan, Dardana Rehman and Qaiser Sanaullah at the media conference at Lahore Press Club.

On this occasion, actor Tahir Anjum said that senior actors have promoted the theatre, certain people are bringing the theater into disrepute, certain elements have registered basements in the theatre, then obscenity has been spread there, closing the theatre. This is not the solution, artists who are promoting obscenity, such elements should be punished.

Amanat Chan said that thousands of people including tea vendors and technicians are not only employed by the theater, if 4 to 6 artists are banned then everything will be fine, they will form a group of artists who will point out obscenity.

He said that no writer writes bad words to the artists, if we are wrong, it is the duty of the officers to point out, do not stop the livelihood, a good way should be found so that there are good and quality plays.

Qaiser Pia said that singing and dancing is not bad if done in a circle, some people have made dance a channel which is wrong, those who do theater should not be deprived of their sustenance.

Dardana Rehman said that earlier there were family plays in the theater, people used to come with their families, but now the theater is running only on the basis of dance.
