There will be no blackmail from elements spreading nonsense in the name of theatres, Information Minister Punjab

Lahore: Punjab Information and Culture Minister Aamir Mir has made it clear that the government will not be blackmailed by elements spreading nonsense in the name of theaters and will not come under any threat or pressure.

Talking to the media, Aamir Mir has said that elements spreading obscenity and nudity should not try to be the spokespersons of genuine artists. He said that genuine artists are with Punjab government on cracking down on vulgarity.

He said that elements who make money from pornographic performers cannot be recognized as representatives of artists. The crackdown will continue against those who make the theater a haven for prostitutes and those involved in trying to mislead the public will also be arrested.

Aamir Mir said that those challenging the writ of the state will be held strictly accountable. In response to a question, he said that the Punjab government is introducing amendments in the Drama Act and dance will be banned in dramas. Apart from this, the producers who violate the Drama Act will be penalized and fined.

He said that after the approval of the Punjab Cabinet, the new Drama Act will be implemented very soon.

The provincial minister said that the theater owners and producers continued with obscene shows despite the warning, due to which they were sealed. Sealed commercial theaters will remain closed until the implementation of new drama laws. Theaters in Lahore were closed for clear violation of the Drama Act. Monitoring of theaters outside Lahore Division is also going on and any theater where obscenity is spread will be closed.

Amir Mir said that cultural centers will not be allowed to become centers of pornographic actors. Obscenities were being spread in theaters in the name of plays. The materialism of a few conscientious peddlers had turned performing arts centers into dens of obscenity. Theaters will be given the responsibility of promoting Pakistani culture and performing arts.
