Islamabad / Ankara: Despite the one year anniversary of Pakistan’s devastating floods in September last year, there has been no significant reduction in humanitarian problems. Around 4 million children still lack access to clean water, adequate food and medical facilities.

A press release issued by UNESCO Pakistan said that a state of emergency was imposed after last year’s floods, but millions of children still need help and are deprived of basic amenities. While there is a severe shortage of resources and money in the matter of rehabilitation.

UNICEF has said that 87 children have died across the country when monsoon rains hit the affected areas again. Similarly, 8 million people are severely affected, half of whom are children. Among them, the plight of 1.5 million children who are in urgent need of adequate food are still in the affected districts.

The UN subsidiary has also made an urgent request for more than 17 crores, which has been termed a life-saving operation.

Abdullah Fazil, the representative of UNICEF in Pakistan, said that the last year has been very terrible for the flood-affected children because they are exposed to all kinds of dangers, their loved ones have been displaced, their schools have been destroyed and their houses have been washed away. . Now the monsoon has returned and the crisis of extreme weather is looming. It seems that the problems of these children have been ignored.

A third of the country was submerged in the September 2022 floods. It affected 33 million people, half of whom are children. In this tragedy, 30 thousand schools, 2000 medical centers and 4300 irrigation projects were destroyed. A third of children are still out of school.
