Yesterday was the hottest day since 1763 in the northern Italian city of Milan, with an average temperature of 33 degrees Celsius.
According to the Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA), Milan is experiencing a heat wave that began in mid-August.
In 1763, the Milano Brera meteorological station began recording temperatures.
ARPA says August 23 and 24 were the hottest days in Milan and the surrounding area, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees in several towns.
The Met Agency said the heat wave is about to end and will be followed by thundershowers, with temperatures dropping by 10 to 15 degrees.
Milan had previously recorded a temperature of 32.8 degrees Celsius on August 11, 2003, which was the highest ever recorded.
