Washington: The US has deported 21 Indian students who came on fake visas.
According to foreign media, operations related to Indian students were carried out at the airports of Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco. The US immigration authorities have banned the deported Indian students from entering the US for 5 years.
The 21 deported Indian students wanted to enter the US under the guise of fake visas and university letters. A large number of Indian students belong to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
According to sources, the deported Indian students were interrogated by the US immigration officials for several hours and their mobile phone and WhatsApp records were also checked. India is facing international scrutiny for the large number of fake visas and documents being seized.
The US deported 129 Indian students in 2018 and Canada 150 in 2019 due to fake visas. In 2019, the US arrested and sentenced 130 Indian citizens due to fake visas, while in 2022 and this year, Canada deported 700 Indian students due to fake admission letters.
