Antioch: After the earthquake in Turkey, 48 people were arrested for looting.

Turkish state media reports that Turkish authorities have arrested 48 people for looting after the powerful earthquake in Turkey.

According to the Anadolu news agency, the suspects were detained in eight different provinces to investigate looting after Monday’s 7.8-magnitude earthquake.

On the other hand, difficulties such as looting and hygiene have increased the burden of rescuers in Turkey. Volunteers struggling to find survivors in the earthquake-hit Turkish city of Antakya say looting and hygiene problems are adding to their difficult task.

A witness searching for his colleague buried in the collapsed building said he saw looting before leaving the city for the village after the earthquake on Monday.

Year-old Mehmet Bok said he returned to Antakya after the earthquake and found people breaking windows and fences from shops and cars while searching for a co-worker in a collapsed building.

Gizam, another rescue worker from the southeastern province of Sanli-Arfa, said she had seen looters in Antakya in four days. “We can’t interfere much because most of the robbers have knives,” he said. People chased one robber who was caught.
