India’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has questioned the Modi government as to why a large number of Indian citizens are leaving the country if it claims that everything is fine in the country.
According to Indian media, this bitter reaction of NCP spokesman Clyde Christo has come out when the annual data based on the number of Indians who have renounced Indian citizenship and taken citizenship of about 135 countries around the world, Union External Affairs Minister S. Released by Jaishankar.
NCP spokesperson Christo has questioned that if everything is really going well in India, why are people giving up their Indian citizenship?
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented the year-by-year data in Parliament on the number of Indians leaving the country permanently.
The minister told Parliament that more than 1.6 million Indians have renounced their Indian citizenship since 2011, with 225,620 people relinquishing Indian citizenship in 2022 alone, an average of about 618 Indians leaving the country every day.
The NCP leader said that if the BJP’s announcements are really based on reality, Indians living around the world should return to their homeland in large numbers.
“I know the government will not provide other necessary data because of the fact that Indians are renouncing their citizenship and leaving due to rising inflation,” he said.
