Nagpur: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been fined for violating the rules and regulations of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In the first match of the Test series against Australia in Nagpur, Ravindra Jadeja was found guilty of breaching Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, resulting in a fine of 25 per cent of his match fee.
Also, one de merit point was added to Ravindra Jadeja’s disciplinary record. This is their first violation in 24 months.
The incident took place during the 46th over of Australia’s first innings on Thursday, February 9, when Ravindra Jadeja was seen applying ointment to his finger. In the video, it was seen that the left-arm spinner took the ointment from Mohammad Siraj’s palm and applied it on the first finger of his left hand.
It was clarified on behalf of the Indian team that the ointment was applied on the finger of the same hand with which the bowler bowls due to swelling. However, this was done without the permission of the on-field umpires.
The Indian all-rounder admitted the mistake and accepted a fine of 25 percent on the match fee from match referee Andy Pycroft.
The match referee was told that the ointment was not used to change the shape of the ball but for medical purposes.
It should be noted that due to the disastrous bowling of the Indian spinners, Australia has faced defeat by an innings and 132 runs in the first test.
