Renowned poet, writer, playwright Amjad Islam Amjad passed away in Lahore.
His family has confirmed his death, he was 78 years old at the time of death.
According to the family, Amjad Islam Amjad died of a heart attack.
The family members said that Amjad Islam Amjad died while sleeping in the night, when they tried to wake him up in the morning, he had died.
Amjad Islam Amjad was born on August 4, 1944 in Lahore.
Late Amjad Islam Amjad obtained his MA (Urdu) from Punjab University in 1967, was a teacher in the Urdu Department of MAO College Lahore from 1968 to 1975, and was appointed Deputy Director of Punjab Arts Council in August 1975.
In the 90s, Amjad Islam Amjad’s services were again assigned to the Department of Education and he again joined the teaching department in MAO College.
Amjad Islam Amjad also held the responsibility as the director of Children’s Complex.
Amjad Islam Amjad gained fame as a poet, dramatist and critic.
Amjad Islam Amjad received Graduate Award in 1975 for the TV drama ‘Khavab Jagte Hain’.
Amjad Islam Amjad has also been the creator of the 1980 drama Shehra Afaq such as Waris, his other popular dramas include Din and Shishar.
Amjad Islam Amjad’s poetry collection ‘Barzakh’ and translations of modern Arabic poems were published under the name ‘Aks’, his translation of poems by African poets was published under the name ‘Black People’s Bright Poems’, while the book of critical essays was published under the name ‘Tasirat’. ‘ became very popular.
In 1976 he was awarded the Writers Guild Award, in 1987 the Presidential Pride of Performance Medal and in 1998 the Star of Distinction.
He received the Nagar Award for Best Film Writer twice, while he was also honored with numerous domestic and foreign awards including the PTV Award.
