Islamabad: Nepra has approved the government’s request to increase the price of electricity by Rs 7.50 per unit.
According to Express News, Nepra has sent a notification to the federal government for the decision approving the increase in the basic electricity tariff up to Rs 7.50 per unit.
Lifeline customers will be exempted from electricity price hike. There will be no increase in price even for protected customers up to 200 units per month. The basic electricity tariff will increase from Rs 3 to Rs 7 and a half per unit.
The cabinet has already approved the price hike through circulation summary. For domestic consumers with 100 units, electricity will cost Rs 3 per unit.
For customers with 101 to 200 units, there will be an increase of Rs 4 per unit. For consumers with 201 to 300 units, the price of electricity will increase by Rs 5 per unit.
From 301 units to 400 units, the cost of electricity will be 6 rupees 50 paise per unit. For customers with 400 to 700 units, there will be an increase of Rs 7.50 paise per unit.
The increase increased the average per unit tariff from Rs 35 42 paise to Rs 42 72 paise per unit. After the implementation of sales tax, the price per unit will go up to Rs 50.
The federal government will issue a price hike notification after the Nepra decision. The increase in base price will be effective from July 1.
