Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will fully implement the IMF agreement, the caretaker government and the elected government after the election will be bound to implement this agreement.
These views were expressed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif during the third meeting of the International Partner Support Group.
Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Sherry Rehman, Minister of State Hina Rabbani Khar, Special Assistants Tariq Fatemi, Tariq Bajwa, UNDP, World Bank, European Union, ADB, IMF, USAID, USA, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, Arab Emirates and other countries’ ambassadors and representatives and relevant high officials attended the meeting.
In the meeting, progress on flood recovery in Pakistan was reviewed. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the important role of IPSG in enhancing cooperation. The Prime Minister also appreciated IPSG’s key role in climate resilience projects.
The meeting estimated to receive $657.5 million by June 30, 2023 from pledges made for various projects during the Climate Resilient Pakistan Conference, while $715 million was received from donors and friendly countries for these projects.
The meeting was told that in the current fiscal year, 913.5 million dollars will be spent on construction and rehabilitation projects in the flood affected areas under the donor support, 19 projects have been created for flood prevention and rehabilitation of the victims, including 8 for Sindh, 7 for Balochistan, 3 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one for the whole of Pakistan.
The meeting was told that 64 percent of the money received for relief work is being spent in Sindh and 16.2 billion was estimated for reconstruction under the 4RF (4RF) in which 8.15 billion dollars are being funded by the federal and provincial governments through PSDP and ADP while the same amount will be provided by friendly countries and international organizations.
The Prime Minister appreciated the performance of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Climate Change, Economic Affairs, Provincial Governments and all related institutions for the rehabilitation and reconstruction works in the flood affected areas.
On this occasion, UNDP Resident Coordinator Samuel Rizk said that one year has passed since the disastrous floods in Pakistan and the presence of all partners is welcome to review the progress of the rehabilitation works.
He said that rehabilitation of the flood-affected areas is possible only with the cooperation of all partners and UNDP will continue to play its full role in this regard as the secretariat of the International Partner Support Group.
