Rome: A new study has found that vigorous exercise can slow the progression of epilepsy.
A discovery in research conducted by researchers at the Jamili IRCCS Polyclinic Foundation and the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Rome could pave the way for a drug-free treatment for epilepsy.
The research, published in the journal Science Advances, was conducted in collaboration with several research institutions. Research uncovers rare mechanism behind exercise’s brain-softening benefits
Corresponding author of the study, Professor Paolo Calabrese, said the researchers have discovered a mechanism, not previously observed, whereby the long-lasting beneficial effects of exercise in the early stages of the disease can persist even after cessation of exercise.
He said that in the future, drug-free treatments can be defined that can be adopted along with drug treatments.
It is to be noted that, after Alzheimer’s disease, it is the second most common neurological disease in the world and occurs after many years of damage to the nervous system.
