Ukraine launches attack on Russia with cluster bombs

Russia has accused Ukraine of using US-supplied cluster bombs.

The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region has said that Ukraine fired cluster bombs on a village near the border on Friday.

The governor made the statement without video evidence during a daily briefing on his Telegram channel on Saturday, while there was no immediate comment from Ukrainian officials.

“Four journalists were injured as a result of an attack by the Ukrainian army using cluster munitions,” the Russian military said in a statement.

The Defense Ministry said Ukraine had used cluster munitions in the incident but did not provide evidence and Reuters was unable to independently verify this.

Ukraine received cluster bombs from the US this month but has vowed to use them to limit enemy troop numbers.

The Russian Ministry of Defense says that a correspondent of Russia’s RIA news agency was killed and three other Russian journalists were wounded by shelling near the front line in the southeastern region of Zaporizhia, Ukraine.

The ministry said the journalist was injured in a Ukrainian artillery attack on Saturday. They were evacuated from the battlefield, but RIA correspondent Rostislav Zvoravlyov died en route.
